The Project Management Institute Southern Alberta Chapter (PMI-SAC) is proud to offer the Mentorship program to its membership each year. There are two intakes per-year, Fall (September) & Winter (January). This program is designed to provide you with guidance and advice on moving your career to the next level.
Mentoring is the process in which successful individuals help others establish goals and develop the skills to reach their goals.
Mentoring can help you acquire skills, increase confidence, widen your perspective, avoid errors, enhance your career and life, and help you succeed.

PMI-SAC sponsors this mentoring program, which is designed to enhance the professional experience and development of the participants. Participation is strictly voluntary and without financial compensation. Please read the following guidelines/principles regarding participation in the mentoring program.
- The duration of the formal mentoring relationship between participants in the program is from September to March. Mentor and Protégé agree to actively participate in the program for the full duration of their engagement.
- Mentor and Protégé agree to be available, responsive to each other’s needs, and willing to adjust schedules as necessary in order to achieve the minimum number of contact hours described below.
- As part of the Program, Mentor and Protégé agree to establish contact for a minimum of two contact hours each month. It is recommended that the minimum contact hours be spread across and composed of (at least) two separate and distinct sessions each month. It is also recommended that the maximum monthly commitment be set at six hours.
- Information shared between the participants within the context of the formal mentoring relationship is considered to be confidential and is not to be shared outside the relationship without expressed permission from the other participant(s).
- An individual pairing of Mentor and Protégé may prove to be unworkable or unsatisfactory to either/both participants. In this case the Mentorship Program Committee will conduct a reassignment as quickly as possible, with no fault assigned to either party.
- A Mentor’s role is limited to the furnishing of opinions, examples, guidance, advice and suggestions. Protégés are to take all information provided by a mentor under advisement in making personal, professional and career decisions.
- It is the responsibility of the Mentor to ensure that all opinions, examples, guidance, advice and suggestions provided as part of the formal mentoring relationship, are accurate to the best of their knowledge and do not recommend or suggest course(s) of actions for the Protégé that could be construed as illegal, unethical or immoral.
- Participants accept responsibility for any costs incurred as part of the formal relationship.
- The PMI-SAC provides this mentoring service to its members with the understanding that using the service provides no guarantees regarding the Protégé’s career. Outcomes are the responsibility of the Protégé and not the Mentor or PMI-SAC.
- Mentors are volunteers and are not experts or paid consultants. Mentors give only advice and/or information based on their knowledge, experience, perspective, etc. Mentors do not make decisions for Protégés.

Prior to the Mentoring Program commencing, workshops facilitated by Right Management will be held to assist participants in learning about the mentorship process. The Mentor Session will be for mentors only, and will help them to understand their role in the relationship. The Protégé Session will be for protégés only, and will help them to understand their role in the relationship. The Mentorship (combined) Session will be for all participants, and will help them understand the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of a mentorship program. Note, involvement in this program requires a six-month commitment.
Enrolment in the program requires that you pay $50 participation fee. This fee will go towards two celebratory events scheduled at the mid-way and end of the program.
The objective of the Mentoring Program is to match experienced Project Managers with individuals who are new to the Project Management field or individuals interested in furthering their knowledge of Project Management.
Please note that submission of an application is not automatic acceptance into the program. Each of the applications are carefully reviewed and paired for compatibility. Therefore, it is not always possible to make a match between mentor and protégé, and in addition, the program is capped at 20 pairings.

PMI-SAC members who satisfy the program requirements can earn PDUs.
As a Mentor, you can earn 12 PDUs, one per each contact hour, for your role as a mentor, reported as Category E – Volunteer Service to Professional or Community Organizations and 4 PDUs for attending the Mentor and Mentorship (combined) workshops, 2 for each workshop.
Total PDUs earned = 16
As a Protégé, you can earn 12 PDUs, one per each contact hour for the mentoring sessions, reported as Category C – Self-directed Learning and 4 PDUs for attending the Protégé and Mentorship (combined) workshops, 2 for each workshop.
