How Agile Approaches Are Changing The Industry And Workplace

Join us for a knowledge packed evening where we will be talking about Agile Project Management.

This includes a discussion with a panel of Agile advocates on the impact Agile approaches have on project management, how things are changing and its adoption outside of software teams.  Is there a role for the Project Manager in a future where software is everything?

Come over to have a slice of pizza and an honest discussion with some key Calgarian Agilists.  This is a panel discussion so please bring your questions!

Panelists and Facilitators

Mike Griffiths

Mike is an enthusiastic practitioner with a long history of contributions to the project management community. He helped create the agile approach DSDM in 1994 and has been using agile approaches on his projects ever since. He served on the board of the Agile Alliance and Agile Project Leadership Network (APLN) and remains active in the agile community.

Mike is a frequent contributor to PMI standards and co-wrote the agile content for the recent PMBOK Guide Sixth Edition. He was also chairman of the author group and helped write the new PMI Agile Practice Guide. He helped create the PMI-ACP Credential and wrote RMC’s PMI-ACP Exam Prep books. He also co-wrote the Software Extension to the PMBOK Guide and participates in the PMI-SAC Mentor program.

Peter McCurdy

Peter is a passionate Project Manager who leverages his projects to improve the capability of the organization. As a Sr. Manager at General Dynamics, he built and led a team of 80 software engineers. As leader of the IT PMO at CP Rail he introduced performance metrics for assessing projects. While at Nortel he led several large scale projects and established processes and metrics to measure development team progress. At SMART Technologies, he instituted a process for delivery of integrated hardware/software solutions. As a consultant, he coached several software development companies on Agile. Currently, he is the Sr. Release and Process Manager at QuirkLogic where he is establishing multi-disciplinary program management processes and coaching its hardware development team on Agile.

Simon Orrell

Accruing experience with business leaders and agile environments since 2004, I became one of three Scrum Alliance Certified Enterprise Coach's in Canada in 2010 and have been working with individuals, teams, and leaders to help transform oil and gas, financial services, manufacturing, and construction businesses. A background including P.Eng. and PMP accreditation further provides me with a pragmatic approach to product, team, and organizational development.

John Moura

John is passionate about Agile, Project Management and data driven decisions.

For the past 20 years, he has been a Project, Program, Portfolio, PMO manager, Development Manager and, above all, an Agilist. Most of his experience was in product development, but not just software. He setup an Agile PMO to build a manufacturing plant using Scrum ad other Agile methods.

Since obtaining his PMP designation over 10 years ago, he has been conducting PM activities daily either at work, through volunteer tasks at two different PMI chapters, by teaching project management at RMC and UofC, speaking about project management or participating in other PM-related networking groups. He realized he was really an Agilist leveraging the Agile mindset under the Project Management umbrella since 1994, way before he even knew there was something formalized.

As VP Operations of PMI-SAC, he has been advocating for the tech industry and new methods while driving the convergence of methodologies.
