Membership FAQs

How do I become a Project Management Institute (PMI) member?

Navigate to the Join PMI page on the PMI International website and follow the instructions there. Don’t forget to add the Project Management Institute Southern Alberta Chapter (PMI-SAC) Chapter to your communities. The benefits of PMI-SAC membership will far outweigh the nominal cost!

What "evidence" do I need to keep to prove I attended an event and how long do I have to keep these records?

Congratulations on your decision to join one the most active and vibrant Chapters in North America! Before you can become a PMI-SAC member, you must be a PMI member. You can add your PMI-SAC membership to your PMI membership when you first join PMI, when you renew your annual PMI membership, or by:

  1. Logging into your PMI member’s account at any time
  2. Navigating through the list of Chapters until you locate the PMI-SAC chapter
  3. Selecting Join.

Who submits my PMI-SAC PDU claims to PMI International?

You do. PMI-SAC obtains approval from PMI International for events the Chapter coordinates that fall under Category 3. Members are responsible for keeping a record of the events they attend and submitting their own PDU claims with PMI International.

What "evidence" do I need to keep to prove I attended an event and how long do I have to keep these records?

You need to keep a record of the events you attend during any given certification cycle in case PMI International audits your PDU claims. Many members choose to track their PDUs using a spreadsheet, but everyone must keep either electronic or paper records including a description of each event and the receipt provided to you by PMI-SAC.PMI-SAC provides receipts for all events they facilitate, including Brown Bag events.

How many PDU's can I claim for a Lunch and Learn or a Dinner Meeting?

PDUs are measured in terms of time spent in a structured learning activity and can be recorded in increments as low as .25 of an hour. You can safely assume all PMI SAC Lunch & Learn and Dinner Meetings each earn 1 PDU. If the event is long enough to warrant additional PDU credit, PMI-SAC will let you know before and during the event.

How many PDU's can I claim for a Lunch and Learn or a Dinner Meeting?

Consult the PMI-SAC Claiming PDUs section of this website or the excellent PMI International online assistance for recording PDUs for assistance. If you’re still stuck after checking out these two sites, please contact our VP Professional Development.

When should I report my Professional Development activities?

PMI International suggests you record your PDU activities as soon as possible after they occur. This way, you are less likely to miss claiming an event and, should PMI International decline a claim, you will still have time to replace it with something else before your certification cycle ends.

Who can I talk to if I have further questions on the PDU process?

You can always contact PMI International Customer Care for assistance. If you are not getting any satisfaction there, please contact the PMI-SAC VP Professional Development.

How Do I Claim PDUs For The Professional Development Conference?

in 2017, PDU’s shall be reported by the participants. PMI.SAC will not longer report PDU on behalf of the participants.

For more information please visit  ‘Claiming PDUs‘ page of this web site
